Considering the Tesla Model S once could forget that most of the electric cars are not that fast. When Volkswagen’s XL1 is compared with the same, we find that although it lacks the acceleration and speed, it can surely beat the Model S in terms of fuel efficiency. It will allow one to travel for 300 miles on electricity worth $1.5 or diesel worth $4.5. (these are European energy prices) After further changes were made and the overall computation was done, the XL1 would require fuel worth $6 for 300 miles and the Model S would require $13.68 for the same.
The main drawback being the acceleration, the car takes 12.7 seconds to reach 60 MPH. Going past that, one would top around 100 mph. Another major drawback will be failure to take advantage of the superior mileage since the gas tank has a capacity of a meager 10 L. Volkswagen is not keen on mass production of this car. It plans for manufacturing 50 and further production will be as per demand.
