Tata Motors bags the largest and one of the first electric vehicle contract for Indian government. In a tender dated 15 August 2017, EESL- A joint venture of different Public Sector undertaking released this tender in-line to the Indian governments vision of 2030 for electrification of vehicles. After deliveries of Tata motors electric vehicle EESL aims to lease these electric cars to other government departments.
What is EESL and why does it need 10000 electric Vehicles:
EESL(Energy Efficiency Services Limited) is a Joint Venture Company of PSU’s of Ministry of Power, Govt of India, The companies like Power Grid, Power Finance Corporation,National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) , and Rural Electrification Corporation are involved in this venture. The aim of EESL is to implement energy efficient projects, the overall estimate of energy efficiency market is estimated to be 74000 crores and till now 5% of this market is captured that too in the areas of lighting and some industrial applications. EESL will lead the energy efficient market by identifying the needs and organizing government policies in accordance to the needs at the same time catering to the needs by the concept of Performance contracting.
EESL aims to distribute this fleet of 10000 Electric Cars by leasing them to various departments. The first few companies to get this facility will be Power department and PSU’s. EESL will be responsible for coordination between the agencies,monitoring and supervision, warranty reporting, complaint redressal and payments. EESL is very much inline to the aim of cutting the countries demands by 64 percent and Carbon emissions by 37 percent in 2030.Initiatives by EESL will be to push manufacturing of electric vehicles to reduce Oil imports and control Vehicular pollution.
Tata Motors Bid Value and Plans for Production:
Tata Motors won the bid of 10000 electric cars, From sources Tata Motors also plans to sell its latest Tigor Electric as other vehicle with slightly higher price. Tata Motors won the bid by quoting 10.16 lakh for each car excluding GST. Its expected that the car should run atleast 150kms on a single charge and will be sold along with a warranty of 5 years on vehicle.
Tata Motors plans to manufacture its Tata Tigor Electric in Sanand Plan in Gujarat, which also manufacturers other variants of the same car. As of now Tata Motors has its only launch of electric vehicle of Tata Tiago Electric with these orders coming up Tata Motors will be easily leading the pack by selling more electric vehicles in Indian market. Tata motors will produce the initial 500 vehicles in the phase and will slowly ramp up the production to match the timelines.
Tata Motors along with Tata Motors Technical center Europe have already demonstrated Tata Tiago Electric and its speculated that Nano electric might also be on the way.
One thing is evident that Tata Motors have given a good run to Mahindra considering the history for electric technology in India with Mahindra Reva Cars in their line.
