Launch of the new Camry

The eighth generation of America’s top selling sedan began rolling off this week. The Camry will be out for grabs next month. It manifests a complete change as compared to the outgoing generation, having diversity in engines, materials, suspension, styling and transmission. It is considered as 96% new compared to the outgoing edition, U.S. deliveries of which suffered a fall of 12% through May.
The TNGA switch over calls for a revamp of Toyota’s manufacturing process to reduce inventory, streamline assembly tasks, a reduction in space and energy consumption. Installation of a new paint shop and manufacturing unit would bring the total investment of the plant near $1.3 billion.
With more than 8,000 workers, the Georgetown facility is Toyota’s largest assembly plant. Lexus ES sedan are also made there and last year they produced over half a million cars.
